Even though I will mostly talk about iPhone apps, similar apps are available in Android phones too. But from my experience I found that, iPhone apps always score better in their layout and overall experience. Spam 'At Lowest Level for 3 Years'

Levels of spam email have dropped to their lowest in three years, according to research by security firm Symantec.

Spam now accounts for 70.5 per cent of all email received, down from a 90-per-cent high in 2008. Symantec calculated the figures after analyzing eight billion emails it processed over one day in November.

Part of the reason for the drop in spam levels was the dismantling of the Rustock botnet, which had been responsible for nearly 40 per cent of all spam sent in 2009, and was thought to have infected 2.4 million computers at its peak. Two other botnets, Kelihos and Coreflood, were also shut down this year. At the moment, the Grum botnet is producing the most spam, around a quarter of all sent. Symantec estimates that it has infected nearly half a million computers worldwide.

Is Chrome Really the Safest Browser ?

Security experts have cast doubt on research that named Google's Chrome as the most secure of the three most popular browsers, ahead of Internet Explorer and Firefox.

The research, conducted by IT consultancy firm Accuvant, has been slammed by security firm NSS Labs for being "skewed" in Google's favor. NSS's main criticism was that the report was actually commissioned by Google, though it also said that other major issues had been overlooked.

"The clear bias in the test methodology does a disservice to the researchers' work, and diminishes the report to a propaganda piece for Google. Upon examination, it became evident that important security technologies incorporated within Firefox were not included in the test methodology," NSS Labs wrote in its analysis of the research.

Mozilla to launch Web App Store

Mozilla has confirmed that it will launch an app store later this year offering free and paid-for apps that you can use on any browser, not just Firefox, as well as any operating system or device. Once you've installed an app, it will be stored on a dashboard in the cloud.

Tristan Nitot, President of Mozilla Europe, explained that the key idea behind the web app store is to make it 'open', so that apps wouldn't be restricted to specific devices. "When you think about the iOS [Apple] market, you have to buy devices in order to buy applications," he explained. "That's not the way we see things. We want to get rid of this bad side of app stores by making apps available to everyone."

Recently I have read too many articles on best of 2011 and predictions for 2012 on technology / gadgets. Most of them were very similar and not much different from what I was thinking of 2011 or that matter what to expect in 2012. So this emboldened me to write one of my own.
